Since
four generations Studio Faggioni has been involved in naval planning,
design and restoration. An experience which takes its root from the old
tradition of the La Spezia Shipwrights and which unceasingly renew keeping up
with the times. For more then thirty years Ugo
Faggioni has been a very well-known naval designer, his experience has been
handed down to his son Stefano who since 1995 has actively collaborated with,
in very important designs such as Sud
and the Bertram series in Miami. From
Ugo's tragic loss in the year 2000, the family activity has profitably carried
on with the realization of restoration projects for very important old sailing
boats.

STUDIO FAGGIONI YACHT DESIGN
The
idea of restoration within the nautical field takes a different meaning from
the typical terminology. In fact unlike a piece of furniture, a painting or a
sculpture, an old boat can not be restored only to be preserved otherwise it
would turn to a museum piece. On the contrary, the boat, even if it is a real
work of art, is conceived to sail. It is "a
fragment taken from the earth", it is a living creature as are the
passengers who live on it, and right around them and for them it has to be
restored, keeping the old charm without altering its own nature, but respecting
the current demands of space, comfort and safety.
From the year 2000 many other prestigious restorations have been added
such as Black Swan, Iduna , Magda
XIII, Pianosa. Under restoration we have Patience,
a 1931 bermudian sloop by Camper & Nicholson, Javelin
a 1897 gaff ketch and Lulworth the amazing 1920
Big Class Gaff
Cutter of which we do want
to underline the extremely delicate work of recovery of the original inside.
Planning and design are parallel activities
to restoration. During the last few years we have been conceiving and launching
prestigious hulls: from the schooner Ishtar (1992) to the ketch Amira
and Barabba
(1979) and to the 35 metres motor yacht Sud whose inside have
been conceived with the typical sobriety of a sailing boat but hardly common on
boats of such dimensions. We have completed projects of many kinds: a
face-and-aft schooner, Caicco type, built completely of wood in Bodrum, Turkey,
ships and military motor patrol vessels as CP254 and CP259 for the Italian
Navy (1983), other military motor vessels for the Venezuelan Navy (1973). We
have joined the realisation of hydrofoils and speedboats such as Guizzo
(1993), belonging to the Tirrenia,
and very luxury yacht such as the famous 105 metres Lady Moura (1988).
Between 1997 and 1998 we have been chosen from the Bertram Yacht of Miami to renew the gamut of their famous 54,
60 and 73 feet famous Fisherman presented in 1998 at the Miami Boat Show and
later produced.
From
the year 2000 we cooperate to the Yachting
Library publishing house to realize books such as Yachting Quarterly, Otto metri (2000), Dodici metri (2001) and the series of two volumes Yacht del XX secolo (2001-2002), with
graphic projects for the plates enclosed in it.
